WEBINAR SERIES: Healing Through Art and Music

Music and art is an essential human quality that connects us all. It allows us to share our innermost feelings and can serve as a means of healing. While living through a pandemic, and the challenges that come with it, music continues to play a crucial role in our lives. In response to this, Digital Tapestries will be conducting a series of webinars to explore the elements of healing found in art. Inspired by Patricia Perez, Ph.D., an associate professor of International Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, we will be looking at five strategies for self-care: Expression, Comfort, Escape, Reflect, and Reset.

The webinar series will kick off on Saturday, January 30 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. CST. This first session of the five-part, monthly Zoom event will be centered around musical expression. Each session will include a panel of four speakers who work in the artistic, social work and healthcare fields. We will also be screening a Digital Tapestries film that relates to the element of that session. In addition to this, each webinar will be accompanied with a live music performance.

This series will include a wide variety of panelists, including Yoko Noge, Hart Ginsburg, Dr. Stan McCracken, Dr. Susan McCracken, Soo Shim and Jacqueline Boyd. Yoko Noge is a Chicago-based blues and jazz musician. Hart Ginsburg is the founder of Digital Tapestries and a psychotherapist who works to create pieces of art to promote healing. Stan McCracken is Lecturer Emeritus at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration (SSA) and has over 40 years of experience as a clinician, educator and consultant. Susan McCracken is a veteran clinical psychologist whose 45 years as a clinician-educator has included work in hospital and outpatient settings and teaching graduate courses at the University of Chicago. Soo Shim, MS, MBA. LCSW, has been in the Social Work field with 27 years of experience working in medical Social Work. Jacqueline Boyd is the founder of The Care Plan, a Chicago-based organization that provides healthcare assessment and management.
